Phibsboro Chess Club Christmas Blitz 2011 Report
The Phibsboro Chess Club Christmas blitz was played in the club rooms in An Oige Mountjoy street on the 19th December 2011. Twenty eight members participated in an 8 round Swiss Perfect Blitz competition controlled by Michael Germaine and our president Herbert Scarry The first round started at 7,45 pm. and a good night was had by all.
Stephen Brady was the winner with a score of 7.5/8 not loosing a game and Yuri Furstov came in a very close second on a score of 7/8. David Salter was third with a score of 6/8. Their were 8 board prizes winners one of which was John Nolan who we were all delighted to see back in the club after a long illness. We wish john a very speedy recovery.

We would like to thank the Management and staff of An Oige for providing the refreshments for the evening. Tea Coffee and cakes, and the special Christmas present of two clocks which they presented to the club. We would also like to thank Val Murray for his continued sponsorship over the years for our blitz.
The evening was rounded off with raffles for two prizes which were won by Noel Duffy and Pat Gibney.
I would like to thank everybody who took part and helped to make our final evening of chess in 2011 a very enjoyable one. I wish all our members a very Happy Christmas and every success for the New Year.
