After a tough season sadly our Armstrong Cup side was relegated. Going into the last round versus Bray we needed “snookers”. A loss 5-3 was no disgrace considering how highly rated they were, wins for Ravshan and Conor, as well as draws from Art and Marc was an honourable performance.
Well done to our Heidenfeld Trophy side who rallied in the last few rounds winning and picking up points, and despite a loss in the Last round their status was preserved. So next year we should have two Heidenfeld sides.
The Armstrong Cup side had a couple of tough results recently, losing 5.5-2.5 versus Balbriggan (wins for Kevin, Fergal and a draw for David) also a loss 6-2 v St. Benildus (win for Colm, and draws for Art and Conor).
The Heidenfeld Trophy side had a couple of good results recently, 6-2 win over Ballinasloe and a 5-3 loss to a strong St. Benildus side – this gives the side a very good chance at staying up.
The final round of the leinster leagues is on the 23rd of April (venue to be announced).
The Armstrong had a couple of bad results recently, losing 7-1 to Dublin, (Draws for art and John) and 7-1 to Gonzaga (Draws for Ravshan and super sub Michael), both very strong sides. We also had a close game against Dun Laoghaire drawing 4-4 unfortunately defaulting on board 8 meant we lost 4-3. We need good results in our final three games.
Heidenfeld had a tough match against a strong Curragh side losing 6.5-1.5 (draws for Tom Tony and John, and an close game against Elm Mount (who were higher rated on every board) losing 4.5-3.5 (excellent wins for Michael and John).
Our BEA Cup side had a narrow win 3-2 v Drogheda, and a lose 3.5-1.5 against a much higher rated Dublin University (Trinity) side.
Our O’Sullivan Cup side had tough matches whitewashed v St. Benildus and a narrow loss to Malahide
Our Armstrong Cup away match against Gonzaga is being switched from Saturday 11th to Monday 13th in our premises. This is due to Gonzaga playing in an international league. A very tough match is anticipated.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
