The good members of Phibsboro Chess Club have decided, as they usually do at this time of year, to take advantage of the fine Irish weather and spend some quality time at beach parties and barbecues. Consequently, they will confine their chessic activites to Monday evenings from next week (Monday, 8th June). Thursday chess will return in August – stay tuned to this channel for details.

A Difficult Night for the Armstrong Team
The Armstrong team suffered a heavy 6.5-1.5 defeat away to a strong Dublin University side last night. With a bit of luck, we might have picked up an extra half-point or so, but an upset was always unlikely. Out-rated on seven boards, our next match will be even harder – Gonzaga will most probably out-rate us on all eight boards.
The struggle continues…
Narrow Victory for the Armstrong team!
Phibsboro’s Armstrong team recorded their second win of the season, a narrow victory away to Elm Mount B, last Monday, 1st December. The individual winners on the night were Lukasz, John, and Algimantas, while Herbert, Conor, and Tom all drew. Tony and Bogdan worked hard but were undone in complicated games. The final score was Elm Mount B 3.5, Phibsboro 4.5.
Armstrong Team Records First Win!
The Armstrong Cup team recorded their first win of the season, a 5.5-2.5 victory over Rathmines. John O’Brien earned the full point versus Abul Kalam with a neat exchange sacrifice, while Lukasz Kwiatek won a complicated (and incomprehensible to the onlookers) game against Tomasz Skrzypnik.
The next match for the Armstrong team is scheduled for Monday, 1st December, away to Elm Mount B.
