Very Sad News

Posted on March 18, 2014July 27, 2018 By admin

John Nolan passed away. A long time Phibsboro club member and before that Raheny and Kevin Barry.  John was part of the highly successful Raheny team which won a number of Armstrong Cup League and Branagan Cups in the early 1980’s. He was also part of the successful Kevin Barry team in the 1980s and early 1990’s. John was a stalwart for the club, he served on the club committee, and was a crucial part of Phibsboro Chess Clubs most successful period, during the 2000’s which seen the club win the Armstrong Cup for the first time and a number of subsequent occasions. As a correspondence chess player John won the Irish Correspondence Chess Championship in 1987 and 1989.

He will be sorely missed by the club and his team mates and opponents over the years.  Rest in Peace.
